Twelve years before the Battle of Geonosis, Jedi Master Nurt Ulasac and his Padawan, Jomel Tunray, accompanied Master Dooku on an urgent mission to Galidraan to stop an army of Mandalorian raiders accused of murdering political activists. When the two camps faced off, a bloody battle ensued in which eleven of the twenty Jedi and all but a handful of Mandalorians were killed. Surviving the slaughter, Master Ulasac developed a strong prejudice against the Mandalorians, which he fueled by studying their history in the Temple Archives, finding justification for their destruction in the atrocities of millennia past. This enmity was only made worse when he learned of Tunray's murder on his first mission as a fully realized Jedi Knight, which Ulasac readily blamed on vengeful Mandalorians. His suspicions are not altogether incorrect as his Padawan's murderer was Buruk Kelborn, a Mandalorian survivor sworn to avenge his fallen comrades. Upon discovering the killer's identity, Ulasac takes it upon himself to put stop to Kelborn's quest. But will his burgeoning hatred lead him into the realm of the Dark Side?

Kit-Sun Wolfgana is a Jedi Knight who also survived the massacre on Galidraan. Wise beyond his station, he was quick to add his voice to Master Dooku's after their return to Coruscant, finding the slaughter both distasteful and unnecessary. When Ulasac decides to put an end to the man targeting Galidraan's survivors, Kit-Sun accompanies him, concerned for his friend's well-being. Can Kit-Sun's mildness and wisdom calm the rising flames of Ulasac's obsession?
